This will always be my favourite accessible accommodation as it was my first....not my first since being in a chair but my first that didn't end in tears.
I was lucky enough to win a 2night midweek stay at the Qld Disability Expo, at a new transport provider I found called DACS. They had recently renovated one of the seven cabins to be completely wheelchair accessible so although apprehensive I booked a stay for early April.
Upon arrival I was really disappointed to see that I was unable to access reception to actually check in - as there where stairs. My partner ran in, was assured the cabin would be accessible, and there would be no need for me to access reception as could call anytime (there is an actual land line phone in cabin - great for emergencies).
The cabin had been so well thought out. It was spacious, flat, level and oh so glidey!!!
The front door has a little foot mechanism you can engage to lock at any point - makes wheeling in and out a breeze.
There is an outdoor deck surrounded by private gardens and as you can see in the pictures the transition is seamless, not even a slight bump - I could even roll out with an almost full glass.
The kitchen has a bench at a good height for access, an underbench dishwasher, underbench bar fridge and even the tap for sink has even been moved for easy access. I couldn't reach top cupboards that had glasses, crockery etc.
Outside is a BBQ at a lowered height, and prep area with good knee clearance to get under. There's a table for eating which was a good size to get around, but I couldn't get knees under.
The bathroom is stunning and so well thought out - even the spa was not too hard to transfer to and from. I don't do well with heat or steam as have POTs and MCAS (amongst other things) so the fact the entire wall opened to the outdoors sealed the deal for me. The video will do more justice than I can.
The staff are lovely and provided a gourmet BBQ hamper for Breakfast each morning - even had Gluten Free for me.
The area is tranquil, and the cabin surrounds super private. You do need a car to access anything nearby but there is a disabled park at door.
Would highly recommend for a relaxing mini break with the one you love.
Will post my adventures in the surrounds of Mount Tamborine soon, just home and am absolutely exhausted. Have a great Easter 🐣 everyone.
